Bus driver charged over Mt Eden pedestrian death
New 4:40PM Tuesday May 29, 2007
A 45 year-old bus driver has been charged with failing to stop and ascertain injury after a pedestrian was fatally hit by a vehicle in Auckland last month.
Police launched an investigation after Chinese visitor Rongfa Jiang, 53, died after the incident on Dominion Road, Mount Eden, on April 18.
Today they said the driver, from the Auckland suburb of Favona, would appear in Auckland District Court on June 18.
He could face up to five years in prison or a $20,000 fine and lose his license for up to a year.
Mr Jiang had been living with a family member in Mt Eden for some months before his death.

This is utterly bullshit if you asked me! Where is the justice in this?
A man was ran over by a bus. And all the driver could face up to five years in prison OR listen to this.... a $20,000 fine? Since when could we put a price on a live? This country's justice system is ridiculous. And the govt. questions crimes whetehr be it petty, juvie or grand needs to be addressed to. Why is the justice taken so lightly in the first place?
I most certainly would not walk confidently on a pedestrian crossing eventhough we have the right of way in the first place. It could be just dumb luck that a car/bus came out of nowhere and mow me down anytime and with the knowledge that the Justice will sentence the driver to a maximum of 5 years in prison or a $20,000 fine. A sum which my small toe would easily fetch in the blackmarket and that's if toes could be surgically transplanted to work on another human being!!! And don't even get me started on my kidney you insane judiciary mofos!
Think of this... if I sold my kidney, that's like a license to take down 5 lives with my 'moped' in respect of monetary terms. Correct me if I'm wrong? I say this calls for a new word I learnt when that movie came about. Vandetta!
Driving over a man on the road = $20,000
Legal, lawyer and burial fees = $50,000
The look on the victim's family's faces when the judge delivers the verdict/sentence = Priceless
For everything else, there's always MASTERCARD

I surely must be the last one to know. This can't be true can it? I am not that detached from the world media am I?
